Baaba Gaadiya is Fuvahmulah’s most iconic street food destination, founded by Hassan Atheeq, known to everyone as “Baaba.” After spending over 15 years in the resort industry — starting as a mess boy at Mirihi Island Resort — Atheeq returned home when the pandemic hit in 2020 and launched his first gaadiyaa (food cart) on August 19, 2020. He started with staples like sausages, hedhikaa (traditional Maldivian short eats), and kurandi, but it was his shawarmas that changed everything — a perfect fusion of rustic island comfort and the international finesse he’d mastered during his years in luxury tourism. The menu has since grown to feature a scrumptious selection of BBQ and grilled seafood, with the catch of the day seasoned with unique local herbs and spices that deliver authentic Maldivian flavors. Today, Baaba Gaadiyaa is more than a food truck — it’s a social destination complete with private karaoke rooms, live music, and an atmosphere where friends and family gather over plates of grills.
